Dr Stephen M Stahl gives a lecture on long acting medications.

Dr Stahl, MD, is a practicing Psychiatrist in Carlsbad, USA, and author of the best-selling textbook, Essential Psychopharmacology.

In this third video of a four-part series on Psychopharmacology he discusses the use of long acting formulations of antipsychotic medications for both new and difficult cases.

There is a paradigm shift towards long acting injectables (LAIs). He considers them as essentially a technology to force compliance. Not just old patients shift to LAIs, new patients can require it as well. Dr Stahl discusses and compares LAI formulations of three atypical antipsychotics: Risperidone, Paliperidone palmitate, and Olanzapine pamoate.
