Introduction

Footage from the Janssen EMEA Medical Education Satellite Symposium, 26th ECNP Congress, October 2013

In the next three videos the four speakers will discuss the different aspects involved in three different clinical scenarios of psychosis: a first episode scenario, a relapse scenario, and a treatment resistance scenario. In this video the speakers briefly introduce themselves:

Philip McGuire: Will focus on the neurobiology aspects of the 3 clinical scenarios. More specifically neuroimaging data will be discussed.

Silvana Galderisi: Will address going beyond the alleviation of psychotic symptoms, stressing that many other domains are more important to ensure a normal functioning of psychotic patients.

Andreas Schreiner: Focusses on integrated care, so the combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment. There is clear evidence of the benefits of this approach.

Martin Lambert: Discusses the importance of involving the patients and their families in the decision making process. For this, patients need to be properly educated, e.g. with respect to the available drugs and their (potential) benefits and side effects.
